Coincidentia or The unity of tangles

This is what the miracle of being river and rock at the same time would look like.

The liquid feminine and the solid masculine have become each other in a totality that cannot be separated.

I am writing this on Before and After, sitting along the mountain river Kander plunging down the Alpetli glacier. The seeming violence of the river and the feigned resistance of the rock, I can look at them for hours until I know: actually they both want the same thing. You would think the water is pounding and the rock is bracing itself, but it is not.

The flow of the river and the resistance of the rock contain each other.

This is how a man wants to love a woman and this is how a woman wants to be loved by a man.

The rock is not as inorganic as it seems. He too knows the yearning to overflow into the one.

The river does not wage war. She patiently gropes the rock with her thousand fingers until it yields. How long this advance lasts does not matter, even if it were eternity.

Afterwards it is uncertain whether what remains is a river or a rock.

Wisdom knew it all along: the active female principle and the passive male principle in the cosmos complete each other. Eventually he will be willing and she will want. Without the river nothing would happen.

It would not even be death, because to know death you must know life.

You must have been river.

That's why I reserved Before and After for my tombstone.
